In 1902, President Teddy Roosevelt was invited on a bear hunt. His guide found the bear first and tied it to a tree to give Teddy an easy shot. Refusing to kill it, Teddy told those gathered he would not use unfair hunting tactics. This moment sparked a comic and, later, a toy that's popularity would sweep across the globe: the Teddy's bear, named after gruff and cuddly President Teddy Roosevelt.
